Ingredients: Love, Life, Gardens, and Sewing
It was many years ago that I moved back to Louisiana with my tiny babe in tow. Suddenly, I found myself living a different lifestyle than before. As a young, single mom, things were slowing down. I looked forward to the new chapter of our lives, and for me, it was a mix of old and new.
Our journey led me to discover a passion for gardening. It inspired me to change our wardrobes and my outlook, and also rekindled my love of sewing. I felt closer to nature when I was immersed in a world that prioritized the simple things in life. I owe my business to these new habits, which turned out to be opportunities unfolding. As a result, I am always looking for opportunities to spark positive change in my daily routine. The rediscovery of an old favorite, juxtaposed with a new environment, can evolve into a new path. I love how life works like that! That's its beauty and simplicity.
Together, we grew into our new lives in those early days. Over time, as motherhood and childhood brought us both beautiful and challenging moments, my eagerness to contribute meaningfully grew. Those dreams played a huge role in seeding the plans that would become Rat des Champs. I built on ideas and skills over the following years, closely aligning with principles of slow-living and the ‘back-to-the-land’ and crafting movements of the 1960’s and 70’s. I made timeless vintage style, natural, non-toxic fibers and heirloom quality the cornerstone of my clothing designs. The foundation of these principles expanded as I learned more about ethical business and circular production. High environmental and ethical standards remain my priority today.
We hope this homespun beginning, our humble little tale, will grow into a long, and lasting adventure with experiences and wardrobes to come.
Thank you again for being here. We look forward to sharing the charm, love, and thoughtfulness that continues in Rat des Champs—every piece is a story itself.
